About Your RO - Duncan Lambert

Forum username: DuncanL
Profile : My name is Duncan Lambert I have just taken over as the RO for the East Yorkshire area, I was first introduced to TVRs back in the late seventies when I used to attend race meetings watching people like John Kent in his Lotus Europa sparing against my all time hero.. Colin Blower in his 3000m, these early images have stayed with me for a life time.
I acquired my first TVR, a 1600m in white with a black model band back in 1979,how I wish she was still mine? Soon after, I joined the TVR club at York attending each month, They were a great band of guys and girls of which some have remained life time friends, we attended many events across the country, and establishing some events which have continued like the Cadwell track day , and Sledmere House was also our brain child.
A couple of years after that I progressed onto a 3000s, also in white, which I ran for a further two years until I was lured into a pointy thing, yes, it was time for a Tasmin 280 convertible in cosmos Blue, again it was a love affair that went on for sometime, Then came that inevitable change in life called Girlfriend/wife/house/mortgage/kids/no money/no time/ but the best thing I ever did.
Then if you fast forward to today some 30 years on, Wendy and I have two fantastic boys who like TVRs, there’s a surprise ? Tom runs a Griff 500, and Alex owns a Chim 400 and a 3000m ! (See above)
And yes you will be asking , what about the old man 30 years on? Well I had to go back into TVRs and a beloved 3000s..my pride and joy, and yes, I had to have a pointy thing , so I was very lucky to buy Tasmin number two from Mr Tank and a 350i series one convertible.
We have a great club atmosphere in East Yorkshire , don’t panic about TVR ownership, many people just come along to find out more perhaps before jumping in with both feet, we all help each other with problems , and quiet often people will head over to my workshop for a little TLC, and it will be my goal to encourage as many people possible into TVR ownership, and the camaraderie that goes along with club life.

Having been aware of TVR as a marque for a long time, I also assumed that I would never be in a position to own one. I've always had something a little bit different to drive so having run old modified production cars for several years I eventually gave up trying to MIG weld rust to rust and built a kit car instead. My first home built car was a really cheap Se7en replica (if you squinted) which I eventually crashed. Once the insurance paid out I then built kit car number two, A SSC Stylus, (Mini Griff) which gave me about 200 bhp per tonne and was a real point and squirt machine.
Having owned it almost 7 years I was looking for something else that was a little bit more practical when a colleague, having seen the Stylus, let me have a drive of his Chimaera 400 and I was hooked from that moment. I needed a TVR and it had to be a V8! Initially I started looking for a Chimaera however my budget meant either buying a project or blowing the budget by a factor of two which put the whole thing on hold.
Then I met previous RO and founder of EY region, Steve Johnson, who arrived at a monthly meet in a 350i. Being a Child of the 80's I'd always loved the wedge styled cars such as the TR7 and Esprit. It also appealed to me that the wedges are a bit rarer than some of the later V8 models and most of the owners are as barmy as I am plus I could get my hands on a reasonable 400SE for the sale value of the Stylus. It all made perfect sense (to me anyway!) The Mica blue car of which I became guardian in January of 2009 is by no means perfect, having used it for 3 seasons a relativity straightforward gearbox swap turned into a full body off restoration after corrosion to chassis was found, this work was completed just days before the 50th anniversary celebrations at Millbrook.
Having originally started out as secondary RO I stepped up to the Primary RO position after 2 years when Steve retired due to other commitments, after 5 years of RO under my belt I found I was struggling to give the role the time it deserved and after a few years of asking I've now stepped aside and let Duncan take reigns.
